Brahmatal Trek

Trekking to an alpine lake has been one of the highlights of a Himalayan trek. Most alpine lakes on our excursions are unfortunately closed in the winter.

The winter Brahmatal walk, however, not only takes you to an alpine lake but also allows you to camp close to it. The Brahmatal trek is unique because it allows you to travel to such a beautiful lake in the winter.

You’re already at roughly 12,000 feet when standing alongside the ice lake in Brahmatal. The setting is breathtaking. A shrine sits by the lake, and a lone tree stands on the far bank. And just beyond the margin of the lake, you can see two of our country’s most gorgeous mountains, Mt Trishul and Mt Nandaghunti.

While everyone is focused on Brahmatal, don’t forget about Bekaltal, another lake that trekkers adore. Bekaltal, lower to the ground, is also a fantastic resource, encircled by thick trees and fascinating legends. On our excursions, we rarely come across such large lakes hidden among woodlands. On this journey, however, we not only travel to Bekaltal, but we also camp close it at Gujrani.

The forest hikes on this excursion over a blanket of snow are some of our best. They’re enchanting without being overpowering. Through the forest, you can see a long way, with snow piled high on the tree limbs.
