Is your customer’s energy bill too high?
If your customers start to notice a significant change in their energy bills, there might be serious problems with their HVAC system. Sometimes, you can eliminate the problem by repairing their HVAC unit. However, at other times, the only solution is a complete replacement of their old HVAC unit with a new, energy-efficient one.
Is the HVAC system making strange noises?
When you come in for a maintenance check, pay attention to how the HVAC system is operating. If there are any banging or rattling noises, it’s a sign that your customer’s HVAC unit is starting to wear out. Check with them if the noises are frequent and loud. If so, it might be time for them to replace their heating and cooling system altogether.
Does your client’s circuit breaker keep tripping?
When a circuit breaker trips once, there really is no cause for concern. However, if your customer’s circuit breaker keeps tripping, there might be a big problem with their HVAC system. While you could repair the problem, it would only be a short-term solution, and getting a new HVAC system is the best option if this kind of problem keeps happening.
Is the temperature in the household unevenly distributed?
When coming in for regular maintenance, always ask your customers if the temperature in their home is even. If their home is constantly either too hot or too cold, the HVAC system is not operating as it should. Sometimes, a repair does it. However, if the issue persists, and you’re constantly visiting their home for repairs, advise them to upgrade their HVAC unit.
Is your customer constantly calling you for repairs?
Performing minor repairs on HVAC units is normal if those repairs are far and few between. However, if this has become a regular occurrence, consult your customers to consider replacing their HVAC system and installing a new, reliable one. It’s always better to invest more and be free of constant repairs, than to continue pouring money into an HVAC unit that keeps malfunctioning.
Does the HVAC system frequently turn on and off?
If your customer’s HVAC system is constantly switching between on and off modes, it will significantly increase the wear-and-tear of the system, causing it to break down more frequently. Check with your customers to see if this is happening, and if it does, perhaps it’s time for a new HVAC system.
Is your customer’s HVAC system old?
No matter how impeccably you’ve been maintaining your customer’s HVAc system, there will still come a time when it needs to be replaced with a new one. It is usually beyond the 10-year mark that HVAC systems become inefficient, outdated, and start breaking down more frequently. If this is the case with your customer’s HVAC system, it’s a good time for a new one.
